MG Gloster arrived in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 28.98 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) on October 8, 2020. Before the official launch in the domestic market, I got the opportunity to experience the SUV in flesh. MG Motor sent us an invitation to attend an off-roading event on 7th October and we gladly pounced on it to witness the Gloster in action. On a bright Wednesday morning, our team dropped down to Oraz Off-Road Adventure Zone at Gurgaon-Faridabad highway, where an array of Gloster SUVs were waiting for us to get in action. The company officials were very welcoming and accommodating as we went through the COVID-19 sanitation checks. All the SUVs went through rigorous sanitation mechanisms after every drive to ensure that everyone is protected from the virus, which has already wrecked havoc  across the world.

I truly appreciate the MG Motor India team for giving us this wonderful platform to explore the off-roading capabilities of the Gloster SUV well before its arrival in the country. We had ample time to take as many shots and videos of the Gloster’s interiors and off-roading capabilities, which you can check out here in this piece.

Our photography team got the chance to take pictures of the stylish SUV’s exterior as well as the interior. We were among the selected few to have the privilege of being in the cabin as we navigated through the different terrain conditions. As you would be aware, the Gloster SUV comes with 7 riding modes like Rock, Sand, Snow, Muddy etc. to name a few. The conditions at Oraz Adventure Zone imitated the harsh and rough terrain conditions that the SUV would encounter during off-roading. The folks at MG were kind enough to give me a chance to take the Gloster SUV for a spin while explaining the features and off-roading capabilities beforehand.

If we observe the Gloster SUV, it’s dimensionally bigger than its two closest rivals which are Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. The experience of traversing the tough terrains was a surreal one if you ask me. We tested out the suspension and braking capabilities in the artificially created rocky conditions. For example, if the sensors detect any wheel is in air and doesn’t have traction, it applies the brake to that particular wheel. The sensors in the SUV then further transfer power to the remaining wheels. One thing we noticed is that when we are changing the riding mode to rock, we need to stop the vehicle and put it in neutral. For the other riding modes, it’s on the fly and can be switched seamlessly.

We took the SUV through the slushy and slippery terrains too where the snow and muddy modes are quite suitable as one doesn’t get much traction there. In the cabin, one can hear beeping sounds indicating sensors are working continuously to give the occupants a smooth experience irrespective of the conditions.

We took the SUV through rocky, muddy and slushy conditions yet inside the cabin, there was no feeling of jerking and it was quite a smooth ride. Further illustrating the off-roading capacities of Gloster, we tilted the vehicle to the tune of 26-27 degrees with the possibility of increasing 3-4 degrees more.

To sum up the whole experience, I can confidently state that alongside a competitive pricing, the SUV comes loaded with features for a comfortable off-roading experience. With the launch of Gloster, MG Motor continues to make its presence felt in the domestic market following earlier arrivals like Hector, Hector Plus and ZS EV.
